India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape is witnessing a significant capacity expansion as Neuland Laboratories announced plans to establish a new commercial-scale peptide manufacturing facility at its Bonthapally campus in Hyderabad. The development, announced on March 9, 2026, reflects growing global demand for complex peptide-based therapeutics and reinforces India’s role in advanced API manufacturing.
The new facility is part of a phased expansion strategy and will become operational in summer 2026, marking Neuland’s transition from clinical-stage peptide production to full-scale commercial manufacturing capabilities.
Strengthening Commercial Peptide Manufacturing
The upcoming facility will be developed at Neuland’s 17-acre Bonthapally manufacturing campus and will include four planned production modules. The first module is expected to be operational in summer 2026, adding commercial-scale capacity to the company’s existing clinical-stage peptide infrastructure.
This expansion is aligned with increasing global demand for peptide-based drugs, particularly in high-growth therapeutic areas such as metabolic disorders and GLP-1 therapies.
Advanced Production Capabilities and Infrastructure
The first manufacturing module will introduce approximately 6,370 liters of peptide synthesis capacity, integrating both solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) and liquid-phase peptide synthesis (LPPS) technologies.
The facility will be equipped with advanced infrastructure, including:
- LPPS reactors ranging from 250 to 3,000 liters
- SPPS reactors with capacities up to 500 liters
- Enhanced purification and drying systems
- Digitalized operations with automation and electronic batch recording
These capabilities are designed to support production from early-stage development batches to multi-ton commercial volumes while ensuring consistency and regulatory compliance.
Investment and Market Commitment
The first module has already secured customer commitments of approximately $30 million, indicating strong demand visibility and early commercial traction.
The project is also expected to significantly scale Neuland’s manufacturing workforce and R&D capabilities, supporting future expansion phases as demand continues to rise.
Supporting Global Pharmaceutical Demand
The expansion is strategically positioned to address capacity constraints in global peptide manufacturing, particularly as demand surges for complex biologics and next-generation therapeutics. By adding commercial-scale capabilities, Neuland aims to serve innovator pharmaceutical companies and emerging biotech firms facing limited access to manufacturing infrastructure.
Outlook
The announcement made on March 9, 2026, highlights a broader industry shift toward high-value, complex APIs and peptide-based therapeutics. As pharmaceutical companies increasingly focus on precision medicine and biologics, investments in specialized manufacturing infrastructure are becoming critical.
With this expansion, Neuland Laboratories is strengthening its position as a global CDMO player in peptide manufacturing, while contributing to India’s emergence as a key hub for advanced pharmaceutical production.
